Zap acts as fuel for dualcast early, and is your only way to evoke orbs at the start of the game. An early upgrade gives you a relevant 0 cost card which is good for act one and helps it fit into all for one decks. Sometimes with a full Frost deck you will eventually want to remove Zap to form a monochromatic deck.
