Ragnarok

Archetype summary

Save up for a huge Ragnarok turn which wipes out your foes.

When to pivot to 'Ragnarok' archetype

When you find an early Ragnarok. Alternatively, if you pull Necronomicon from the cursed book event.

Star items

Turn Ragnarok into your main source of damage. Empower it with Wreath of Flame to virtually double its damage, then hop into Wrath (or Divinity) to end combats swiftly. Repeat if necessary - some encounters end after a single Ragnarok.

You may draft multiple copies of Wreath of Flame if offered, but this is not essential.

An upgraded Blasphemy is a god-send in this build, giving you a little extra energy to handle the large cost and tripling your damage at the same time, and it's retained for precisely when you need it.

Support items

Vulnerable helps your Ragnarok hit even harder, so consider Crush Joints or Indignation failing that.

Fasting and relics that grant Strength work very well with Ragnarok, but Fasting can be difficult to pull off without lots of energy gain and should not be played in Act 1 unless you have another way to play your Ragnarok after the energy defecit. Deus Ex Machina can help here. Though less flexible, Swivel was basically built for Ragnarok. It breaks even on a 1-cost attack, so grants roughly 2 energy if used on Ragnarok. Remember that its effect carries over across multiple turns.

Meditate can tutor out your Ragnarok if you need it a second time and is a source of Calm to help you to afford being able to enter Wrath and play Ragnarok in the same turn.

Scry can help you find your key pieces more easily, so consider Third Eye or Foresight.

Necronomicon takes this deck to the next level, but is by no means necessary. Just remember that Wreath of Flame will not apply on the second trigger.

'Ragnarok' archetype weaknesses

Any encounters with multiple enemies can be disruptive, since your Ragnarok damage can split across multiple foes, killing none of them. The typical strategy is to burst foes down one at a time, but Ragnarok doesn't guarantee this. This can make the Sword and Shield and Deca and Donu quite tricky fights unless your damage is absurdly high.

Strikes become extra terrible in this deck, since they consume your Wreath of Flame effect. Remove them first, and avoid drafting too many other attacks.

Keep your deck small so you can play your Ragnarok repeatedly.
